Thousands of tourists a year come to Savannah to see the gorgeous historic buildings, cobblestone streets, and the numerous beautiful parks located through the city. Whether you live in Savannah or are visiting, take time to check out these five great parks in the city.

  1. Forsyth Park

Located in the center of the historic district, lies the 30-acre Forsyth Park. One of the highlights of the park is the stunning fountain that was added to the park in 1858. On the grounds of the park are tennis and basketball courts, a half-shell theater, two playgrounds, and a cafe. Every Saturday Forsyth Park hosts a farmers market and every few months, they hold free movies. In the spring, the famous Savannah Jazz Festival features top-name jazz performers.

As you wander the Square, you’ll also see two historic homes with grandiose designs and architecture. Take time to sit on one of the benches under a shady oak tree and enjoy the sound of flowing water at the Lafayette Square’s fountain.

  1. Morrell Park

Spend time along the Savannah River at the end of River Street and visit Morrell Park. The diminutively-sized park is only 236 feet by 26 feet and has wonderfully soft grass that’s ideal to lay a blanket on and watch the river roll by. Visit the two monuments within the park, the Waving Girl, and the one that represents the cauldron that was lit for the 1996 Olympic yachting events held in Savannah.

  1. Daffin Park

  1. Mother Mathilda Beasley Park
